In the late 1990’s
the City of West Wendover estab
lished its Community Development
Department. This Department with its five staff members performs
several vital functions for the City including: General community
development information, statistics and demographics, planning and
zoning, plan approvals, building permit approvals, regulations and
requirements, code development and compliance, business licensing,
community events planning, community advertising and other matters
related to the development and growth of the City.
As part of these functions,
the Community Development Department operates the City’s Tourism
and Convention Bureau, which provides visitors to our city with
community and area tourism information and assistance, ensuring
that all visitors receive our Nevada trademark hospitality and friendly
service with a smile.

When, where and how;

 In
the spring of 2001, the City of West Wendover established under
the Community Development Department the West Wendover Tourism &
Convention Bureau. The primary purpose of the Bureau was to
operate the Nevada Welcome Center located on Wendover Boulevard,
which in the past had been staffed by other organizations including
Wendover USA and the Wendover Area Chamber of Commerce. Under
the direction of the Community Development Director, the staff of
three operates the Welcome Center and welcomes visitors to our community
from all across the globe. In addition to providing visitors
with information on the area and sites of interest, etc., the Bureau
also helps to promote community wide activities including the annual
Cinco De Mayo Celebration held the first Sunday in May of each year
as well as the annual July 4th Celebration among others. Through
professional staffing and proper presentation of our community and
its people through a welcoming smile, the Bureau has been recognized
as one of the most responsive, friendly and well maintained facilities
in the western United States.
